Ville de Sélestat

Ziegler House

Private house, visible only from outside

Finished in 1538, this early Alsatian Renaissance House was adorned with an oriel-window by the owner, the town architect, Stefan Ziegler in 1545. The balustrade is decorated with mermaids and tritons and the remaining elements of the decoration echoes the Hotel of Ebersmunster. Ziegler drew his inspiration from one of Vitivius treatise lent by his friend Beatus Rhenanus and conserved in the “Bibliothèque Humaniste”.
