A small rocky island isolated in the middle of the vineyard, this geological site is separated from the mountain by a deep gorge. It can be described as a chaotic jumble of granite rocks – two-mica granite called Dambach - on the edge of the Vosges Massif, a few dozen metres from the fault that divides the Vosges and the Upper Rhine Plain. In Alsace, it is the best example of “granite ball” erosion caused by the circulation of water in the network of cracks in rocks.
