As an introduction to the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Peasants' War in Alsace in 1525, the Friends of the Humanist Library, in collaboration with the association “1525, une révolution oubliée”, are organising a study day on an event whose repercussions have left their mark on our identity and our imagination.
The approach will be general and aimed at the general public. Specialists from the historical, religious, literary, artistic and archaeological fields will present the latest research and considerations on an important chapter in the history of our region, the German Empire and social Europe.

- 09:00am: Opening to the public. Welcome by Mayor Marcel Bauer or his representative. Presentation of the study day by James Hirstein and Gabriel Braeuner. Presentation of the association ‘1525, a forgotten revolution’.
- 09:45am: The historical, social and geographical context of the Peasants' War by Gabriel Braeuner, Honorary President of the Friends of the Humanist Library.
- 10.30am: Marignan-Scherwiller, 1515-1525 by Georges Bischoff, Emeritus Professor at the University of Strasbourg
- 11.15am: Antoine de Lorraine from Nancy to Nancy, via Dieuze, Saverne and Scherwiller by Paul Abel, historian
- 2.15pm: ‘It is unfair to take justice into one's own hands’. Luther and the Peasants' War by Matthieu Arnold, Professor of the History of Christianity, Faculty of Protestant Theology, University of Strasbourg
- 3pm: Reactions of the literati: Beatus Rhenanus, Ioannes Sapidus and Ioannes Atrocianus by James Hirstein, President of the Friends of the Humanist Library of Sélestat, Emeritus Lecturer at the University of Strabsourg and Marie Jeannot-Tirole, doctoral student at the University of Strasbourg
