" The largest classical music festival in Alsace. "
PIANO : GRIGORY SOKOLOV Grigori Sokolov, one of the Colmar Festival's most loyal performers, returns this year with a formidable programme combining Baroque and Romanticism. Accustomed as we are to compartmentalising periods and styles, we all too often forget the debt that Chopin and Schumann owe to Bach, whom they revered as a veritable god of music. Grigory Sokolov invites us to explore this often-overlooked heritage, with some of the most personal works by these composers: the Cantor's brilliant Partita No. 2, two collections of Mazurkas by Chopin, which were in a way the diary of his torn soul, and Schumann's spellbinding Forest Scenes, where the Romantic imagination is in full swing with a unique poetry. PROGRAM Johann Sebastian Bach, Four Duets (BWV 802-805) Johann Sebastian Bach, Partita No. 2 in C minor (BWV 826) Frédéric Chopin, Four Mazurkas op. 30 Frédéric Chopin, Three Mazurkas op. 50 Robert Schumann, Scenes from the forest op. 82
