Concert event choir and orchestra
Nine singers, accompanied by two violins, a cello, a double bass and an organ, bring Mozart's sacred music of the Salzburg era to life in the Imperial Hall of the Würzburg residence.
This Mozartfest concert intersperses high-level works from the sacred repertoire of the Haydn brothers, Michael and Joseph, between Mozart's two short Masses.
Michael Haydn's Ave verum Corpus, for example, is enthralling, as is Mozart's later Ave verum Corpus, touching in its depth.
The choir's vocal performance is first-rate. The five women's voices and four men's voices harmonise perfectly in Mozart's Masses from the summer of 1884, which once again demonstrate the composer's genius.
Passionate male sections and committed soprano and alto passages do justice to the compositional gems of the Gloria and Credo.
The instrumentalists' playing is as harmonious when accompanying the voices as it is during their solo passages.
