Medieval exhibition : Hortus Déliciarum

An exhibition of around a hundred plates of drawings with commentary from the Hortus Deliciarum codex, an extract from the first encyclopaedia in history written by a woman, Herrade de Hohenbourg, canoness of Mont Ste-Odile, in the 12th century. The Garden of Delights is a magnificent illustrated record of daily life in the Middle Ages, richly illustrated with illuminations in parchment, ink and colour. Creation, the Old Testament, the New Testament, the period of the Apostles, Christian Life and the Last Days make up this manuscript.
