Spesbourg Castle

Fancy a journey back to the Middle Ages? Set out to discover the ruins of this fortified castle overlooking the village of Andlau.
Built in 1247 to control the valley and the neighboring abbeys. The castle has a large square 24 m high keep and an inner courtyard. Fragments of polychrome frescoes can be seen on one of the vaults in the ruin; with the carved chimney caps, they suggest an unusual degree of refinement for the XIVth century.
During these last 20 years, it has been restored to become more accessible.
