Château du Ramstein

Ramstein Castle, built in 1293 by the great bailiff of Alsace Otto von Ochsenstein, is located below its powerful neighbour Ortenbourg.

Only two sections of the wall remain from the residential tower, where different levels can be seen, a chimney and a large archway with a niche facing Ortenburg, where a war machine capable of firing projectiles at the castle could be placed.

For several years now, a team of volunteers, the "Ramstein watchers", have been clearing and consolidating walls, towers and basements.

For security reasons, the castle is not allowed to enter (visit of the site possible during heritage days).
