Located near the Tête des Faux in the heart of the forest, the Carrefour Duchesne National Necropolis reveals itself at the crossroads.
The genesis of this atypical cemetery is the result of the bloody battles that took place in the Tête des Faux massif during the First World War.
It was named after Major Duchesne, battalion commander of the 215th RI, who died on December 2, 1914 at the Tête des Faux. The cemetery contains the graves of 294 soldiers and an ossuary where 116 soldiers are buried.
On the site of a former important military camp, today this place full of history blends harmoniously with the natural environment that surrounds it. Depending on the weather, it is surprising to observe the deep atmosphere that emerges.
The Duchesne Cemetery can be discovered by hiking or mountain biking from the Col du Calvaire. In winter, the cross-country ski trails of the Lac Blanc resort are also close by.
