Church of the Assumption

" Amazing both inside and out, this church is worthy of the former prestigious capital of Haut-Mundat. Its unfinished construction and its mystical sculptures incite curious visitors to enter the heart of this historical structure and observe its remarkable architecture. "

The church "Notre-Dame de l'Assomption", in romanesque-ogival style, shows the evolution of the religious architecture from the 11th to the 19th centuries. The nave, with 3 bays flanked by aisle-sides with 6 bays each, is connected to the transept (the oldest part). You can notice the alternation of the pillars: simple and bundled. Fine altar of the Virgin Mary (15th century) on one of the pillars. Nave completed by a west part with 2 towers (southern not completed, northern 1875). The portal with its sculptures is topped by a beautiful rose window. The facade is the work of Woelflin from Rouffch (14th century). The spire rises on the transept (former bell tower). Polygonal chancel from the 13th century. Windows from the 19th century. Fine sculptures at the door of the old sacristy: the "Smile of Rouffach" (young boy and young girl).
